Reporting
I built this Power BI project to analyze Deskify Office Supplies from both product and customer angles. I looked at revenue, profit, orders, customers, product performance, customer segments, regional performance and shipping patterns, then brought the key findings together in an interactive dashboard.

Project Overview
I wanted this project to go beyond just reporting sales numbers. I used Power BI to understand which products, categories, customers, regions and ship modes contributed most to profit, and how profitability changed across the year. The goal was to turn the data into a clear dashboard that supports better business decisions.
Tool: Power BI
Project Type: Business Intelligence Dashboard
Focus Areas: Product Analysis, Customer Analysis, Profitability, Sales Reporting
Questions I Wanted to Answer
01
Product Categories
Which product categories and sub-categories contributed the most profit?
02
Product Performance
Which individual products performed best?
03
Profit Over Time
How did profitability change across the year?
04
Customer Profitability
Which customer segments and individual customers contributed the most profit?
05
Regional & Shipping Performance
Which regions and shipping methods contributed most to overall performance?
How I Worked With the Data
01
Clean & Prepare
Reviewed and prepared the data in Power BI so it was ready for analysis.
02
Model the Data
Organized the data model and relationships needed to support the analysis.
03
Create Measures
Built DAX measures for key metrics including revenue, profit, orders, customers and profit margin.
04
Analyze
Compared products, categories, customers, regions, months and shipping methods to understand what was driving performance.
05
Build & Present
Created interactive Product Analysis and Customer Analysis dashboards with filters, KPIs and visuals to make the results easy to review.
Product Analysis Dashboard
This dashboard focuses on product performance and profitability. It shows category and product performance, monthly profit trends, shipping patterns and the top-performing states.

Customer Analysis Dashboard
This dashboard focuses on customer profitability. It highlights customer segments, top customers and the relationship between region and customer segment performance.

Product Insights

Which Product Categories Drove the Most Profit?
Office Supplies generated the highest profit at $985.4K (64.7%), followed by Furniture at $331.0K (21.7%) and Technology at $206.0K (13.5%). This shows that Office Supplies was the main profit driver in the business.
Which Product Sub-Categories Performed Best?
Binders led sub-category profit at $260K, followed by Paper at $242K and Furnishings at $153K. Most sub-categories were profitable, but Copiers stood out as a loss-making sub-category at ($16K).

How Did Profit Change Over Time?
Profit changed across the year rather than staying stable. It was lowest in August at $81K, then rose sharply in September and October, where it reached $167K and $177K. This suggests seasonality or periods of stronger demand.

Which States Contributed the Most Profit?
Profit was spread across several states, with California and Texas among the strongest contributors. This shows that profitability was not concentrated in only one part of the country, although some states contributed more strongly than others.
Which Ship Mode Was Used Most?
Regular Air handled the majority of orders at 4.1K (74.1%), followed by Delivery Truck at 0.8K (14.1%) and Express Air at 0.7K (11.8%). This indicates that Regular Air was the main shipping channel in the business.

Customer Insights

Which Customer Segments Were Most Profitable?
Corporate was the most profitable segment at $0.53M, followed by Home Office at $0.39M. Consumer and Small Business contributed $0.31M and $0.29M respectively. Corporate and Home Office contributed more profit than Consumer and Small Business.
Which Customers Contributed the Most Profit?
The most profitable customers included Emily Phan at $34.01K, Deborah Brumfield at $31.12K and Grant Carroll at $27.98K. This shows that a few customers made especially strong profit contributions.

Which Regions Performed Best?
The West region contributed the most profit at $537,922, followed by the South at $459,303. Midwest and Northeast followed behind. Looking across the segments, Corporate and Home Office were especially strong contributors.
What the Analysis Showed
Key findings and why they matter for the business.
01 - Product Categories
Office Supplies generated about $985.4K in profit, making it the strongest-performing product category.
This category is a major profit driver, so maintaining strong product availability and performance within Office Supplies should remain important.
02 - Product Sub-Categories
Binders and Paper were among the strongest sub-categories, while Copiers recorded a loss.
Strong sub-categories can help guide product focus, while the loss on Copiers suggests that pricing, costs or product performance may need closer review.
03 - Profit Over Time
Monthly profit was uneven, with August among the weakest months and stronger results appearing in September and October.
Understanding these changes can help the business prepare for weaker periods and investigate what contributes to stronger months.
04 - Customer Segments
Corporate and Home Office contributed more profit than Consumer and Small Business.
These segments are particularly valuable customer groups and may deserve greater attention in sales and customer-retention decisions.
05 - Regional Performance
The West and South generated more profit than the other regions.
Regional differences can help the business identify stronger markets and investigate opportunities to improve performance in lower-performing areas.
06 - Shipping
Regular Air handled the majority of orders compared with Delivery Truck and Express Air.
Because Regular Air is the dominant shipping method, its cost, reliability and service performance can have a large effect on overall operations.

What This Project Helped Me Practice
This project helped me practice building business dashboards that answer real questions from different angles. I improved at turning one dataset into two connected stories: product performance and customer profitability, while keeping the dashboard clear, interactive, and easy to use.
